Paraguay's exporters' chamber CAPEX warns that a weaker dollar reduces the guaraní proceeds of export sales while many business expenses remain denominated in local currency. According to the association, some companies are using reserves or loans and reassessing less profitable markets.
Context and implications
Following a meeting with the Economic Team on October 29, industry groups and government officials agreed to establish a technical working group. CAPEX announced the outcome on October 31. Its assessment does not represent an independently measured loss for the entire export sector.
Radar assessment: Exposure differs depending on local costs, imported inputs and hedging. The next test is whether the technical working group convenes and publishes concrete proposals.
