August 2026 figures show annual growth in private-sector lending and deposits. Borrowing costs still require careful analysis.
MARKETS · FINANCE
Outstanding private-sector credit from banks and finance companies increased 16.59% year on year in August 2026. Local-currency loans rose 12.85%, while foreign-currency lending gained 24.48%. Private-sector deposits increased 19.60%, including 19.24% in local currency and 20.18% in foreign currency. These percentages reflect changes in balances, not monthly disbursements.
The weighted average local-currency lending rate reached 15.96%, while the deposit rate was 6.21%. The lending rate rose 0.35 percentage points from July.
The expansion of credit and deposits points to growing financial intermediation, but does not mean cheaper financing for every company. Borrowers should assess total cost, currency, maturity, collateral and projected cash flow. These are August, not October, figures.
