MOPC reported the start of bank-protection works on the Paso Carreta stream in Luque. The first phase carries a PYG 53,463,956,760 contract and covers 1,980 metres. The ministry estimates around 50,000 potential beneficiaries; that is a scope estimate, not an outcome already measured.
The stretch runs from the Paso Bogarín bridge to near Club Mariscal López. Contract SG Ministro No. 152/2026 was signed on August 27 and awarded to Consorcio PG2, comprising Carlos V. Gueyraud and Luis Bóveda Samaniego. Contract signing and the physical start of construction are separate milestones.
The intervention combines drainage and bank protection with public-space improvements. It includes retaining structures, channels and culverts, alongside upgrades to the Villa Adela and San Pedro squares.
Economic implications
Fewer flood-related interruptions could support local shops, services and mobility. Benefits depend on construction performance and maintenance. Available evidence does not quantify any property-price increase or private investment return.
What businesses and suppliers should monitor
For suppliers and investors, the next milestones are certified physical progress, payments and commissioning. Awarded value must not be presented as expenditure already completed. The official release consulted provides no completion date; Radar therefore does not assign one.
Radar reading: Paso Carreta’s economic value will depend on reducing flood-related disruption to local life and business. Assessment should focus on functioning drainage, continuous access and maintenance. The contract and construction start are milestones; economic benefits and any potential property-value gains still need to be demonstrated.
