Paraguay's commercial sector is experiencing divergent performance across product groups. The Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP) reported a 4.4% year-on-year increase in its Business Turnover Estimator (ECN) for August 2026, with 4.5% cumulative growth through August. The ECN covers manufacturing, trade and services, not retail alone.

Food, pharmaceuticals and home equipment

The bank identified positive trends in trade involving food, pharmaceutical and chemical products, and home equipment. Fuel, agricultural supplies and machinery also performed well, though several of these activities are not household retail spending.

Weakness in large stores, clothing and technology

Large stores, apparel and technology products showed adverse performance during August. The contrast illustrates why a single aggregate growth rate cannot describe all commercial categories.

Investment implications

Retailers, shopping-centre operators and suppliers need to track individual demand segments, inventories, promotions and credit conditions. The release does not provide growth percentages for each category or prove the causes of their weaker performance.

Radar perspective: sustainable expansion depends on identifying resilient categories and adapting commercial strategies.
