Paraguay’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce reported on October 2 that Spain’s Grupo Costa had started operating a plant in Katueté. According to the ministry, initial throughput was approximately 200 animals per day, with around 200 jobs.

Operations and expansion targets

Expansion to 2,000 and subsequently 5,000 animals per day represents projected capacity. Reaching 600 employees by year-end also remains a target.

What businesses and investors should assess

The operation raises a practical business question: which conditions will enable initial activity to develop into sustained, profitable production? Companies considering opportunities around the plant should verify requirements for livestock supply, transport, refrigeration, maintenance and services. The plant’s existence alone does not establish available contracts or supplier profitability.

What remains unknown: the information reviewed does not specify the investment amount, actual capacity utilisation, commercial contracts or a detailed expansion timetable. Those figures would help establish the project’s scale. For now, the relevant development is the start of an industrial operation; its future growth should be assessed through measurable results.
